Social program

The Organizing Committee of the conference will arrange visits to main attractions of Yakutsk for interested participants: the Mammoth Museum, the exhibition "Treasury of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)", the People of the World Khomus Museum and Center, and the Permafrost Institute. Costs of visits to these museums and complexes are not included in the registration fee.

You can sign up for excursions at the time of registration before the start of the conference.

 

1. Mammoth Museum.

In 1991, the only Mammoth Museum in the world was founded in the city of Yakutsk. The collection of the museum has more than 1400 bone remains of large animals of mammoth fauna. Here one can see fully restored skeletons of the mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, and bison, a mummy of a wild horse, a piece of mammoth skin and other interesting finds.

2. Exhibition "Treasury of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)".

The exhibition "Treasury of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)" provides an opportunity to get acquainted with the unique collection of nuggets of gold, platinum, and silver, large natural diamonds, a fine collection of works by Yakut masters - jewelers, diamond cutters, carvers of bone and stone.

3. Museum of Permafrost.

There is a fascinating place in Yakutsk - the Museum of permafrost, opened in an old tunnel near the city. Now this is a unique place, which keeps a constant temperature about minus 5-10 degrees. The tunnel is divided into several halls, wh ere one can see with own eyes what the permafrost is like. In summer, the museum does not get warmer than -4° (but in winter it does not get colder than -10°). Crystals of ice (frozen soil moisture) permeate walls of caves and shine, illuminated by colored lamps.

4. People of the World Khomus Museum and Center

The People of the World Khomus Museum and Center exists since 1990. What is a khomus? The khomus (guimbard) is a musical instrument related to self-sounding reed instruments and is considered as one of the most ancient and common musical instruments. Many peoples of the world have their own kinds of guimbards. Currently, more than 162 kinds are known. The museum includes khomuses from England, Norway, Hungary, Italy, France, Moldova, Slovakia, etc.

5. Historical park «Russia Is My History» in Yakutsk

is a multimedia museum, in which the whole history of Russia is presented from ancient times to the present day. In 2018, the Museum of Contemporary History of Yakutia will be opened in the history park.

   

Work schedule: Tuesday-Sunday from 11:00 to 20:00.

 

6. "Lena Pillars" cruise

Also, the opportunity is given to visit the National Nature Park "Lena Pillars" on a cruise "Yakutsk-Lena Pillars-Yakutsk (36 hours)". Departure from Yakutsk is in the evening of June 19, arrival in Yakutsk is early in the morning of June 21 (preliminary). Payment for the visit and meals is made from own funds of the participants.

    

The Lena Pillars are a natural rock formation on banks of the Lena. Fabulous stone sculptures in a form of pillars and towers stretch along the bank of the Lena for tens of kilometers. This monument of nature is composed of Cambrian limestones - a rock formed more than 500 million years ago. Height of the pillars reaches 150-300 meters. The Lena Pillars National Park is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

7. Ethnographic Complex "Chochur-Muran"

Ethnographic complex Chochur Muran was built in memory of the cossack pioneers, who founded Yakutsk in 1632 , as an outpost development of the North-East of Russia. Ethnographic complex Chochur-Muran will offer you local cuisine of authentic character, as well as traditional Russian cuisine. In the preparation of food almost no spices are used to impart pristine taste. The peculiarity of the restaurant's cuisine is fresh and natural products from all over Yakutia.
